Granite and Marble Care and Maintenance Directions

The following suggestions will help you to keep your countertops for decades.

Generally, it is important to maintain cleanliness of all other surface areas of other products; likewise, granite and marble need on time care and maintenance for durability and beauty of your investment. Hence, proper care can safeguard the longevity and beauty of the granite potentially forever.

Avoid utilizing cleaners containing ammonia, orange, lemon, citrus, vinegar or other acidic liquids on the countertop as it might fade the polish both on surface and edges

Read the label of chemical cleaners before use and clean up any spills immediately

Dust and wash the granite surface with warm or cold water using stone soap or any other neutral cleaner, dishwashing detergent.

If there are any residues of gum, food, oil, paint, and nail polish, you can easily scrape away with a plastic scraper or sharp blade to remove the mark with no scratch.

Sink areas need to be cleaned and whipped regularly to avoid stains and oily look. If you have a busy kitchen, it is recommended to use granite sealant as needed in order to prevent greasy look but it all depends on your particular type of granite.

Products such as bleach, oven or drain cleaners are not suggested at all.

Material Description

The word granite comes from the Latin granum, a grain, in reference to the coarse-grained structure of such a crystalline rock. Granite is one of the hardest igneous rocks formed from magma and found in the continental plates of the Earth’s crust. Granite comes in different textures and colors depending on their chemistry and mineralogy. Granite has gained popularity in the recent years and is massively used as a construction stone due to its strength, durability and beauty. Granite has been extensively used as a surface area and as flooring tiles in residential and commercial buildings and monuments. However there are numerous alternatives, natural granite has become very popular among the people.

Granite slab is an excellent choice for countertops for many reasons. Firstly, granite is absolutely scratch resistant. Granite is available in a variety of colors and patterns as well as different finishes. The visual appeal and durability of granite is valuable comparing to other products.

Granite Slabs are manufactured by cutting large granite blocks in sheets of different thickness and sizes either ¾” (2cm) or 1-1/4” (3cm). After cutting these slabs are polished and an average size of granite slab is 110” x 70”. Mostly the granite slabs in the same bundle carry similar patterns.

Quartz is the second-most-abundant mineral in Earth’s continental crust, after feldspar. Its crystal structure is a continuous framework of SiO4 silicon-oxygen tetrahedral, with each oxygen being shared between two tetrahedral, giving an overall chemical formula of SiO2. There are many different varieties of quartz, several of which are semi-precious gemstones. Since antiquity, varieties of quartz have been the most commonly used minerals in the making of jewelry and hardstone carvings, especially in Europe and the Middle East.

Quartz makes an excellent gemstone. It is hard, durable and usually accepts a brilliant polish. Popular varieties of quartz that are widely used as gems include: amethyst, citrine, rose quartz, and aventurine. Agate and jasper are also varieties of quartz with a microcrystalline structure.

Quartz carries an enduring beauty and is one of nature’s hardest minerals. Most Quartz counters are composed of approximately 90% quartz and it lasts for many years. It is available in various patterns and rich colours.

Marble is usually used for vanity, reception desks, and table tops because of its fragility and softer nature. Similarly, the marble adds value to your home or office, and comes in a wide variety of colors with remarkable textures veined or consistent colors. Marble comes with polished, antiqued and honed finishes as well. Marble is most popular to be used in bathroom floors and shower walls, creating the elegance look to your surroundings.
Travertine and Limestone
Both Travertine and Limestone are natural materials formed millions of years ago and found under water. Travertine and limestone are softer in comparison to granite and marble. Travertine carries a classic look which is often used in custom built homes.

  • How do you fabricate the granite?
We fabricate the granite at our fabrication plant; initially, the counters are cut from full slabs according to the templates and measurements, then shaped finally polished and made ready for installation.
  • Why is the thickness different?
Because granite in 3cm thickness is preferably suitable to provide numerous edge profiles and materials in 2cm thickness allows more options for skirting and laminating to make the edges more beautiful. As complicated edge profiles require more labor and material, it may add to the price. 2cm is also used for full height back splash or any other surfaces. 2cm is weaker than 3cm in strength but durability could be the same.
  • Can you fabricate without any seams?
We always strive for incomparable workmanship so we try our best to reduce the seams unless we have to cut joints considering the granite fragility or size of the slabs. Usually, joints are professionally glued and the fillings are done accordingly which makes it less noticeable.
  • Why is the granite surface not smooth?
Some of the granites have their own characteristics and patterns. Sometimes, they have small pits, fissures, veins and cracks but during the production process most of these issues are cured and filled in to give the granite a smoother look. Therefore, the samples and images do not represent the whole slab due to variations of the natural beauty. Thus, we recommend that our customers view the slab before we start fabrication.
  • How often should I apply granite sealant?
Mostly it depends on the material and firmness of the granite. In order to preserve the beauty of the granite surface, it is advised to seal once a year depending how busy your kitchen is. Sink or vanity areas where most washing happens should be cleaned and sealed as needed. You can purchase granite sealer and spray and let it soak for a couple minutes then wipe it with a soft cloth.
  • Is granite heat resistant?
Some of the granites have their own characteristics and patterns. Sometimes, they have small pits, fissures, veins and cracks but during the production process most of these issues are cured and filled in to give the granite a smoother look. Therefore, the samples and images do not represent the whole slab due to variations of the natural beauty. Thus, we recommend that our customers view the slab before we start fabrication.
  • Is it ideal to cut on granite countertops?
However granite is harder than knives, it is recommended to avoid cutting anything on the granite surface instead use cutting boards.
  • Who disconnects and reconnects the plumbing?
Please hire your own contractors to do all the plumbing work. If you want us to help you find one reliable sub-contractor, advise us accordingly and we can help.
  • Can you remove my existing countertops?
Yes, we remove your existing countertops but there is a minimal fee that we charge so please discuss with our sales department.
  • How can I pay?
We take debit, visa, and master card, but cash, personal checks and bank drafts are accepted as well.
